Happy Halloweenie

Last year on Halloween I looked like this-

This year I look like this-
Not the best week to have a laser treatment done on my face. Yikes! Jason and I were suppose to be 70 Rocker's together this year. Looks like I'm gonna be a zombie...no make-up necessary. :(

My little, bigger brother.

For those of you who do not know my little brother Alex, I highly suggest that you meet him sometime in your life. I've been thinking a lot about him today and how he is truly one of my very best friends. Lucky for me, he's my brother! He may not look it, but yes, he is 2 years younger then me. He's 6'5" and can grow a beard like it's no one's business. There are so many things that I love about this kid. Because I am in such a good mood right now, I will name a few:

1. Alex can quote movies better then anyone I know. We could probably carry on an entire conversation made up entirely of movie quotes.
2. He is an AMAZING musician. He plays the bass for a band called Miniature Tigers. If you haven't heard of them then you're missing out. Go here. Now.
3. Alex is incredibly intelligent. He buys me the best books for Christmas. He fortunate to be not only book smart but street smart too. He's really REALLY great to talk to.
4. He is a great traveler! The lucky boy has toured all over the country, visited Japan, and backpacked New Zealand for a few months.
5. He's a sports guy. He's plays, but mostly watches. :) He is very knowledgeable in this area.
6. Alex is very generous. He's there to give a helping hand whenever he can. He's a great friend. He loves everyone he meets and it's incredibly obvious when you get to know him.
7. Not only is he a talented musician, but he has great taste in music too! He is my go-to-guy when I need new tunes to listen too.
8. He hangs out with me when I visit home. I don't go home often enough but when I do, he's the person I am most excited to see. No one can make me laugh like him.
9. Alex is a movie expert. He likes a very wide range of movies. I trust his opinion when it comes to what I should see.
10. He loves his sister (me).

To sum it all up, Alex RULES. He is such an amazing person. He is everything you would want in a friend, and lucky for me, a brother.

Here are a few pictures of my lil' bro. Enjoy.

This picture is of me, Alex and my oldest brother Rick. Eric is missing in this picture.

Rules for My Unborn Son

A big thanks to my very favorite blog, Cup of Jo for her post on the fabulous book, Rules for My Unborn Son by Walker Lamond. His book includes 1001 tips on how to be an extraordinary and significant man. This is inspirational for men and not to mention mothers who want to raise a bona fide son! To see a few of these rules check out Walker's blog here. The book comes out October 27. You can bet your boots that it will be the newest edition on my bookshelf!

The Hogle Zoo!

Today and tomorrow is October break for the kids I nanny. The forecast read, sunny and in the high 60's so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take the kiddo's to the zoo! Jason was kind enough to tag along and help keep tab's on these little munchkins. It was such a fun day! I'd love to go again before the weather gets terribly cold and gloomy...

This is what happens when you give a 2 year old your camera

All of these shots are courtesy of this little nugget below.

I have about 50 more of these random shots on my camera too...

'Nuff Said

Happiness takes work. It can be hard and we will all have those "meh" kind of days. Today is one of those days.

Good Night fellow bloggers. Tomorrow will be better.

Hip Hop Violin

This girl is amazing! I saw her perform live tonight. Talk about some talent!

Life.

Life is good. It's actually great these days. Today I am in a surprisingly good mood. I've had a lot of wonderful experiences this week that have helped me to, "step back and smell the flowers", if you will. I've been inspired by others and its made me take a real good look at my own life. And you know what? I'm happy. Things just seem to be going great, and they only keep getting better. Right now I aspire to slow down and take in the little things. Those things in my life that truly make me happy. Moments that I don't want to forget. And if I'm moving to fast I'm going to miss them. I'm quite positive in my purpose here on earth. I feel invincible. There is nothing that I am not capable of. Typing those words have made me think of one of my favorite quotes which I now want to share-

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, like children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." -Maryanne Williamson

"Who are you not to be?", right? Those words speak for themselves. Anything is possible.

It feels good just knowing that I am striving for happiness. Because at the end of the day, isn't that all that really matters? I know what makes me happy. I am happy with family, good friends, being in love, being a part of a remarkable church, loving my occupation, and making the most out of life. I find joy in good books, laughing, cooking, cuddling, dancing, traveling, singing and sweets!

Today is a good day. I hope it's been good to you too...

Hooray for Pumpkin season!

I can't remember the last time I carved a pumpkin but after seeing these pictures I can't wait to carve this season! Now I just have to decide on which one...

A better picture of my new $6 dress from Old Navy.

Here it is. I LOVE this dress. I may or may not have already worn it twice this week. And for $6 too! Also, that beautiful blonde in the picture is one of my very besties Jessy Bailey Carlisle. She is one of the first people i met when I moved to Provo and we've stayed great friends ever since. Love you Jessy! It was great seeing you this weekend!

Well done Old Navy...

I never thought I'd be saying this, but Old Navy's sale rack is quite impressive! I even bought that long bohemian dress that is beyond charming. (If you look closely at the circle scarf post, I'm sporting the dress). I've realized lately that I have an ever growing obsession with j.crew. Even though my closet would love to own every item in that store, my wallet isn't too fond after far too many visits there. So. New Goal. Be a better bargain shopper. And look what I found when I put that goal to the test. All of these items are under $20 dollars! Hooray for deals!

One Year.

October 3.

Today makes it exactly one year since Jason and I shared our first kiss which we are now dubbing our anniversary. Happy day!

*Thank you Connie/Kamryn for capturing such a special moment...

Get ready to laugh

I just watched the first two episodes of Modern Family on Hulu. Oh man. Gut busting laughter! If you're a fan of Arrested Development then you will without a doubt feel this show. It's witty and most definitely worth a half hour of your time. Check out ABC on Wednesday at 9/8c if you feel like adding another show to your t-vo. Don't have t-vo like me and don't have time to watch night time television at the scheduled time? Well then, Hulu will soon become your best friend.

Also...

Remember when I said I wanted to get a circle scarf? Well I did. And a lot sooner then I thought I would. Thank you j.crew. I adore my newest winter addition.

Maybe I don't always say it, but I love you

Maybe I tease you and kid you a lot,
Maybe I never show up on the dot...
but I love you

Maybe I dance just a little too close,
Maybe my jokes are a little too gross...

Maybe I sometimes let you do the work,
Maybe I even act like a jerk...
but I love you

Maybe I hold you a little too tight,
Maybe I keep you up too late at night,

Maybe my pride sometimes gets in the way
Maybe I feel more than I ever say...
but I love you

Maybe I don't always smile and agree,
Maybe my mind runs a little too free,

But you know I"ll stay just as true as can be,
Maybe not perfect, but perfectly me,
And dreaming of new ways to help make you see,
that I love you.

This darling poem was written inside a card that Jason gave to me. It may sound a little light hearted to some people but to me, it was absolutely perfect. I'm sensitive. And Jason can razz me at times. But he always knows how to make my lil' sensitive bones feel more loved then I ever thought possible. I maybe be a hopeless romantic but Jason knows exactly what to do when he wants me to fall head over heels all over again....
