A sister's plea to a thief

The holiday season is a time for love, kindness and giving. Sadly last night my brother experienced none of those things. In fact it was the exact opposite.

Around 11:15 PM on December 15th my brother, Rick Gerber dropped by my place to visit after playing a music set at Alta Resort. Within a half hour, he walked outside to find his vehicle, a 2007 white Chrysler Pacifica, gone. Inside the car was a good portion of his music equipment including the love of his life-a Gibson acoustic guitar he's had for 20 years, a book of poetry along with movie scripts he's been working on for years, an iPod with all of his original recordings and music equipment he picked up for a friend not 10 minutes before arriving at my home. Many of these items are irreplaceable. His life's work in fact.

Rick has been a gifted musician for all his life. He's lived in Ogden for nearly 20 years where he has formed bands such as Tanglewood, Labcoat, Bad Feather and The Rugs. He's played countless shows around the Wasatch front. My brother has a heart of solid gold. He's one of the kindest, most giving people I've ever known. He is a friend to all and has blessed the lives of many. My heart is breaking thinking about the pain and anguish he is going through.

I'm asking who every did this, please return the car and these items. Even anonymously. As a musician, to have your life's work stolen like that is like stealing apart of your soul. Kindness begets kindness. Love begats love. Please find it your heart to give back the work that my brother has taken a life time to create.

If you have any information at all, please call the police or Rick Gerber directly. 801-458-4121.

Again, the car that was stolen was a 2007 white Chrysler Pacifica. Plate number D776LD.

An Expose' for Mothers by Rick Gerber

A mother always understands unconditionally. She makes it her mission whether she agrees or not. Always on the cusp yet falling toward your side of the situation. When your heroes pass on she is so sad for you...you may get a letter or a phone call and that is a fact.
A mother always and forever learns to love what you cherish; person, place or thing. A mangey dog, a silly comic, a heavy song, etc. She is with you like The Force. As once you were a Padawin, you will become a Jedi!

It's funny how sons and daughters need not worry so much because mom will do it for them. They may never realize this and it might lie dormant, yet it is there. Protecting us, guiding us and helping us keep our composure in this heavy life.
Our Mothers pray for us and hold the door in high Heaven. Their smile outlines our hearts and minds, encasing an unescapable feeling of love and this pushes us to do the same. They are absolute! It's their mission to see us progress and move forward lilting, laughing and frolicking in life.
Not everyone answers the phone when they're far away and you may need an ear. Mom will. So you begin to pour it out....she listens, she fears, she laughs, she scorns, she scolds and before you know it the day has gone by and your worries are wind.
Recipes and meals are an essential compliment and fervor to mothers. Not ever, nor anywhere will you be nourished or have laid out in front of you your absolute favorite dish. Not anywhere!...than in mamas kitchen. She cooks, she cleans, stirs, kneads, and butters it up. All for you...Yummy!

Mom makes mistakes and you learn from them. She worries until her stomach hurts. She protects like a lioness and you are safe. She is everything. She carried you, shaped you, created you...somehow she chose you. Your hang-ups, your faults, decisions, random acts....Benevolently she knew what would become of you and she smiled and said those simple words...Yes he is my son.
In my mind, in my heart, speaking only for myself yet hoping others feel the same. I know that everything I am, have become or will be is because of my mother. She never gave up and always sent out her love to me and in the back of my mind I am always and eternally grateful for her persistence.
Everything a mother is, is all of her as a whole. It is for you...Gods greatest gift...life's grandest treasure...times finest feat...a perfect song...a happy memory...a stepping stone, bridge or door.
We love you mothers...from your sons and daughters. Even when we're screwing up, or mad or self involved...every one of us through time memorial...we truly, truly, truly love you. I could go on for days on pages...yet...
This is a simple expose' for mom...Nothing more, nothing less...

Yesterday was my mother's birthday and my eldest brother wrote this expose' for her. It has moved me to tears. I couldn't agree more, brother. God really did send us to the best.

Showering the babe

How cute are these party favors? It was a loofa that said, "From Katie's shower to yours" ha!

Last weekend Jason and I ventured south for my Arizona baby shower. My mother outdid herself once again! Are you surprised though? That lady is amazing. The day could not have been more perfect. I felt so loved! I really do have the best friends and family that absolutely spoiled me rotten. My only complaint is that the day went by far too quickly! I wish could have spent an hour with each and every person there, but alas...I could not. The weekend was absolutely fabulous.

Thanks for the world's best baby shower, mama! This baby is now ready to greet the world!

First comes love...

Hey you guys. My eggo is preggo.

 13 weeks

 18 weeks

 20 weeks

 22 weeks

27 weeks

Baby boy Widdison (aka a widdle-son...get it?) will be making his grand entrance this July! To say we are excited would be an understatement.

The news of his arrival was not a surprise but we were definitely shocked with how quickly we got pregnant. What we thought would take at least 6 months happened in about 2...so here we are, jumping in with both feet! And ecstatic, to say the least. :)

Pregnancy is whole lot different than I expected. Pretty much, I thought it was going to be the worst. I expected to be sick, and cranky, and sore, and most of all off my rocker crazy emotional. I am happy to report that none of that has taken place! I lucked out big time. I absolutely love being pregnant. I feel so good and surprisingly have tons of energy.  I never threw up, my sanity has actually improved (ask my husband!) and with the exception of the recent arrival of a few lower backaches during the night, this whole pregnancy thing has been a breeze. I'm almost to my 3rd trimester and have loved every second of being pregnant so far. They only complaint I can make (which is probably more of a problem for Jason) is that I totally snore now! Dang you swollen glands and vessels! I don't really notice but Jason has since started sleeping with ear plugs in. ha. Poor guy. Luckily the OB said that goes away almost instantly once the baby is born.

So come July, our little family of 2 will happily become 3. A whole new adventure lies ahead and we are over the moon with excitement at this journey we are blessed to take.

Bebe W, we love you so much already!

Teton National Park

Last weekend we ventured to the Teton National Park with Jason's side of the family and had a blast! We went white water rafting, hiked the Jenny Lake trial, had a run in with a bear, ate like kings and indulged our sweet tooths with the most delicious huckleberry ice cream I've ever had. It was a quick weekend getaway but was jam packed with tons of fun and the best company. Nothing beats a good summer adventure. And let me tell you, this one was really good.

Mr. H

Meet Harrison. I started nannying this little guy back in June. He has stolen my heart! He is the happiest most easy going baby. He is all smiles and has the sweetest little personality. I wake up every morning looking forward to going to work and getting to spend the whole day with him. He is nearly 8 months old and most definitely has me wrapped around his little finger. This is the first time in my 7 years of being a nanny that I've only taken care of just one child. It is so much fun! I love being able to devote all my time and attention to just one kid.

Twilight Concert Series

Hello there! It's been awhile since I've last blogged. 5 months almost. Holy Moly. Back in February our Spokane house was robbed and my computer along with all my pictures (which were not backed up on a hard drive) was stolen. Saddest thing ever. I cried for days. So it's been hard to blog without a device or visuals. (Blogs without pictures are boring). It wasn't until today that I realized there's a blogger app! (There's an app for that!)

DUH, Katie.

So here I am. On my phone (cuz we're too broke to buy me a new computer),  ready to try this whole blogging thing again.

Jason graduated in May from law school. We've since moved to Salt Lake City where he and his friend plan to start a law practice together. (They take the bar in 10 days! Gah!) We found the cutest little rental and are really excited to be living in such a great city.

One of the best things about Salt Lake in the summer time is the Twilight Concert Series. It happens every Thursday evening and awesome bands come play in Pioneer Park for only $5 bucks! It use to be free but now they've put a small price on it to keep the riffraff out (aka smelly homeless people). It is such a blast! Last night was the first show and we saw Belle and Sebastian. Next week The Flaming Lips will play and I think Jason might pop a gasket with excitement he's that stoked to see them. I'm most excited about Ludacris! Ha. He's playing the second week in August and I am so. so. excited. If you know me at all then you know I've got a special place in my heart for rap music. ;) I've been listening to Luda since junior high school and I can't wait to sing along with all those songs I've had memorized for years.

It's great to be back in Utah. I never thought I'd say that! But this place has it all. Jason and I like to call it a big little city. It progressive, cultural and up and coming.

Stayed tuned ya'll. Now that I've downloaded that app, I'm making a blogging come back!

xoxo
